Truly, I had stopped collecting Malaysia Stamp since last year, 2009. The major reason is I found out that there is not much return on collecting Malaysia Stamp compare to Malaysia Banknotes due to the high mintage. Therefore, I made a concrete decision of stopping my stamp collections and turning the way into collect banknotes.
However, I am still visiting the Post Malaysia (GPO) frequently to update myself on the stamp issue (title and date) and for sure meeting friends. Today, there is a new stamp launching - Malaysia Currency Stamp. I can confirm that this is a hot issue due to the publishing of newspaper and every collector is discussing about it since few days ago. No harm, it is a hot issue.
As often, I reach Post Office (GPO) at around 9:30am, but today the queue is not as often, it is damn long. Everyone needs to queue at least 1 hour to reach his turn, of course including me. The type of stamps that Post office launching today are Stamp, Miniature Sheet, First Day Cover, Folder and the most unique category - the Premium Stamp. This is an extraordinary. Due to the extraordinary, I need to spend again.
After discussing with my dear, we come to a decision of purchasing 100 pieces of the Premium stamp due to the limited mintage at 5,000 only. We really wish that we could make some cash from here.
Based on the Post Officer, all the stamps are actually printed in Netherlands with limited mintage which prepared by the Central Bank of Malaysia. For the information, the mintage of the stamps is folder - 1000, Premium Stamp - 5000, while the rest are 50,000. If judge against with the earlier issued, it can considered very limited. Below are the samples and details of today stamp - Malaysia Currency.
Stamp
There are three types of stamp design, which is based on Malaysia Coins 10 cent, 20 cent and 50 cent. The size of each stamp is 35mm x 35mm with a circular perforation of 30mm diameter and printed with Silver Metal Foil Printing. Besides, the perforation of the stamp is 14 x 13¼.
Miniature Sheet
The design of the miniature sheet is based on the latest design of Malaysia RM50 Banknote or it can be status as the Twelve Series of Malaysia Banknote which is signature by our 6th Governor, Tan Seri Dato’ Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz. The miniature sheet is denomination at RM5 with the Silver Metal Hot Foil Printing.
Actually, Bank Negara Malaysia is issuing a new RM50 banknote during Chinese New Year of 2008. This new design of RM50 banknote is the first domination of the Twelve Series of Malaysian Currency notes which will be replacing the existing series in stages.
First Day Cover
Due to the issued of Stamp and Miniature Sheet, therefore there are two different First Day Cover – First Day Cover with Stamp and First Day Cover with Miniature Sheet.
Folder
Nowadays, most of the new issue stamp will include the Folder as one category. Since Folder is like a file, so collectors can keep their collections inside based on the issued title. In addition, it also makes the collectors more easy in order to keep or searching for their collections.
Premium Stamp
This Premium Stamp is made of Silver with 999 purity and weight 1.12g, with a face value of RM50. It is issued in conjunction with the 50 Years Commemorative of Central Bank of Malaysia, complementing the issuance of special issue stamps by Post Malaysia featuring Malaysia Currencies.
The design of this Premium Stamp features both sided of the 50 Years Commemoration of Central Bank of Malaysia proof coin. This Premium Stamp is printed using the latest technology available where the image of the proof coin is transferred onto the stamp surface via laser to achieve an exquisite and exclusive piece of silver stamp that can be posted onto an envelope to be used as postage.
At last, I managed to get myself 192 pieces of Premium Stamp and 4 sets of Folder Set. Total I spend for this trip is RM9736.40. Oh my God!!!
